About STOPS
Founded in 2001, St. Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide (STOPS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Florida Parishes of Louisiana. STOPS is dedicated to providing suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention through education, awareness, and compassionate community outreach.
The organization offers evidence-based training programs such as safeTALK and ASIST, equipping individuals and organizations to recognize warning signs, respond with empathy, and support those in crisis. STOPS also hosts Lunch & Learn programs that bring suicide prevention education directly to workplaces, schools, and community groups, helping foster safer, more supportive environments across the region.
Guided by the belief that every life has value and every story deserves hope, STOPS works to build a connected and resilient community where help is available, hope is visible, and healing is possible for all.
Mission Statement
To provide suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention through education, awareness, and compassionate community outreach across the Florida Parishes.
STOPS equips individuals, schools, workplaces, and faith-based organizations with the tools to recognize warning signs, respond with empathy, and support healing after loss. Through training, outreach events, and survivor support, we work to build a connected and hopeful community where every life is valued and every story matters.
Vision Statement
To build a community where suicide is preventable, support is accessible, and healing is shared through prevention, intervention, and postvention efforts.
STOPS envisions a future where every person feels seen, valued, and connected—where education leads to action, compassion replaces stigma, and hope becomes a foundation for every life.
